They are worth HOW MUCH? Compare the NET worth of Ant & Dec, Simon Cowell, and JK Rowling!
Ah, the ever-lovable Ant & Dec. Who doesn’t have soft spot for this quintessential double act? Originally meeting in 1990 on the set of teen drama Byker Grove, it was a case of brotherly love at first sight for the pair who forged a strong bond almost immediately.
Upon leaving the Grove in 1993, they broke out on their own with a brief but… memorable pop career before really hitting the big time fronting a couple of kid’s TV shows. They’ve never really looked back since and have now graced our screens for over 25 years, although if we’re being honest, we’re still not ENTIRELY sure which one is which all the time. At least they always stand in the same position…
These days the twosome is best known for hosting I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here and Britain’s Got Talent as well as Saturday Night Takeaway, which recently returned to our screens for a 14th season. With all this primetime TV work it’s no wonder the pair brought home a reported £25k a day last year. It’s alright for some I suppose…
Simon first appeared on our screens back in 2001 as a judge on the hugely influential talent show Pop Idol. He quickly ‘charmed’ the masses with his no-nonsense approach to delivering bad news to the wannabe singers and frequent interjections of constructive criticism. Basically, he was the baddie.
Since then, he’s been behind some of the biggest TV franchises on the planet, heading up panels on The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent. He also runs his own record label, Syco, playing host to an array of megastars from his various franchises, including Westlife, Susan Boyle and teen-pop sensation/cougar chasers One Direction.
Most recently, Simon was seen back behind the judge’s table on the thirteenth season of the X Factor, ready to tell the latest batch of hopefuls how off-pitch their wailing was. Still, at least he’s miles better than Louis Walsh.
Simon’s massive fortune is currently set at a staggering £325 million, making one of the richest celebs in the UK. His latest windfall is down to the runaway success of One Direction, netting him £59m in their first year on the scene alone, more than enough to splurge £6.9m on an apartment New York and £5m on his LA mansion. Still, those pearly gnashers can’t come cheap. Colgate must love him.
JK Rowling, the world-renowned author of the Harry Potter series, is also unsurprisingly not short of a few bob. Famous for condemning parents across the nation to countless nights regaling their bewitched offspring with tales of Harry, Ron and Hermione, hers is a real rag-to-riches story. She’d lived in poverty for most of her adult life and resorted to writing her stories in cafes, sustaining herself and new-born baby on state benefits. That was until three days after a little story about a boy wizard was released and the rights were bought for an unprecedented $100,000. She then of course struck even more gold with the launch of the Harry Potter film series and the rest, as they say, is history.
Rowling keeps a tight leash on the Potter franchise, refusing to simply cash in and ensuring she maintains creative authority on any future projects. After penning a new series of more adult-oriented crime novels under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, she most recently wrote the script for a Potter stage show, The Cursed Child, with tickets selling out in minutes.
Famed for her charitable giving, Rowling was on the Forbes list of Billionaires until she donated around 16% of her wealth to charity. She also runs her own organisation, Lumos, helping end child institutionalisation. Sounds like a proper good egg to us.
