Slots Jargon Buster

Ever get confused by all the different slots terminology? Don’t fear – Super Free Slot Games is here to explain some of the terms you might come across, so you can feel more confident about what you read on the sites.

Slots Reels
Reels are essentially the number of lines which show the slots symbols, left to right. In most cases, the games will have 3 or 5 reels.

RNG (Random Number Generator)
A Random Number Generator is the software that determines what the outcome of each spin will be.

When you play slots online, the RNG generates a random set of numbers which correspond to the symbols displayed on the reels. It generates these every 1/1000 or more of a second, so when you push the spin button, the number that was generated is then grabbed and compared to a table that will define the outcome of the spin.

Pushing the button even 100th of a second later would yield a totally different result, as the RNG generates thousands of numbers between spins.

Max Bet
The max bet function allows you to bet the maximum amount of coins/lines. The max bet button can usually be found next to the spin button.

Fruit Machine/Fruity
The fruit machine, or ‘fruity’ as it is sometimes called, is a UK version of a slot game with a selection of fruit symbols on the reels.

Hit Rate
Hit rate is a term used to describe how often a slot machine pays a winning combination. It can also be used to describe how often a bonus game hits.

Progressive Jackpot
When a slot has a progressive jackpot, this means the cash prize will increase every time anyone plays the game, until the jackpot is won. When the jackpot is won, values are reset to their minimum amounts before they start to grow again. You’re usually required to bet the maximum amount (max bet) to qualify for the progressive jackpot.

Payline
The payline – sometimes called a ‘betting line’ or a ‘winning line’ – refers to the pattern on the reels when a winning combination of symbols occurs.

Pay Table
The pay table details all the possible winning combinations. It also tends to include information about any bonus games or special features within the game.

Multiline
A multiline slot refers to any slot that has more than one payline on which you can line up wins. So, winning combos are made on many lines, rather than just one. Plenty of slots out there have tens or even hundreds of lines, which can make them more appealing for players.

Bonus Round
A bonus round is any additional way to win on top of the standard reel pays, usually triggered by landing a certain combination of symbols which can be identified in the game’s pay table. Common types of bonus rounds include free spin rounds and ‘wheel of fortune’ style games.

Scatter
A Scatter is a bonus payout most commonly found in video slots. This is usually triggered by lining up 3 or more of the Scatter symbols (which vary depending on the game) in a combination (identified in the pay table) across the reels. These can often activate bonus features or games.

Wild
The Wild symbol can sometimes help a player get a bonus payout because it can be substituted for other symbols to create winning combinations.

Return to Player (RTP)
Written as a percentage, this term tells you (on average) the amount of money a player can expect to win from their bets. So, for example, if you play a game with an RTP of 95%, then for every £1 you bet you can expect to receive £0.95 back. This sum is usually paid back to the player as a prize.

You’re likely to see many of these terms around as they’re quite popular in the world of slots. We hope we’ve been able to cut through the jargon and provide you with some handy explanations for when you next log in and take a spin!
